Why I’m Calling My Next Book Flip
Exploring the moments when life turns upside down—and how we find our way back to balance
Hey, It’s Josh 👋
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what makes a story resonate—those pivotal moments when everything changes. My upcoming book originally had the working title Chaos and Comfort Part 2, but as I’ve been diving deeper into these stories, I realized that title doesn’t fit anymore.
This isn’t a book about opposites. It’s a book about transformation.
It’s about those moments when life flips—sometimes literally, sometimes metaphorically—and what happens next.
🎯 New Working Title: Flip
The more I think about it, the more Flip feels right. It’s sharp, dynamic, and captures the unpredictable energy behind the stories. What do you think of the title? Let me know—I’m always open to feedback!
The Personal Inspiration Behind the Stories 💭
One of the biggest influences on these stories has been my dad. Growing up, he was the kind of guy everyone loved—the unofficial “fun dad” of the neighborhood. Our house on Blue Ridge Drive was the spot for flag football in the fall, whiffle ball in the summer, or whatever game we could come up with.
And my dad? He never once complained. He loved the chaos of kids taking over his weekends.
But a few years ago, during the pandemic, everything changed. He was diagnosed with AL Amyloidosis, a rare and devastating form of cancer. Seeing his world—and mine—turn upside down has shaped the way I view resilience, loss, and how we navigate change.
This book isn’t just about big ideas or wild moments. It’s about those deeply human experiences that make us who we are, even when life throws us into chaos.
Sneak Peek: Sharing My Rough Draft 📝
I’m sharing a rough draft of one of the stories from Flip.
✨ It’s raw.
✨ It’s unpolished.
✨ And it’s a little vulnerable.
But I think there’s something powerful in sharing a story as it takes shape.
📖 Introducing: The Walkouts
This story dives into a world turned upside down—literally. Set during a UFC fight where gravity randomly flips, it’s about resilience, hope, and the idea that sometimes, the smallest voices can make the biggest impact.
I’d love for you to read it and tell me what you think. What resonates? What doesn’t? Your feedback will help shape the final version of the book.
The Tension Builds: Welcome to UFC 311 🥊
The T-Mobile Arena buzzed with nervous energy. Gravity flips, a bizarre fact of life, were now part of the UFC’s allure, adding chaos to an already unpredictable sport.
Tonight’s main event between Amon “The Philosopher” Kaveh and Viktor “The Avalanche” Stravka carried more weight than ever. The world outside was unraveling, and fans craved a symbol of resilience.
🎙️ Jon Anik’s iconic voice set the scene:
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to UFC 311! Tonight’s main event pits two opposites: Amon Kaveh, the master of balance, and Viktor Stravka, the embodiment of chaos. In a world as unpredictable as ours, this fight feels almost poetic.”
Joe Rogan chimed in, awe palpable in his voice.
“This world is chaos, Jon—flipping at random, testing everyone’s balance. But tonight, maybe balance is what we’re about to find.”
Enter Lio: A Voice That Touched the World 🎵
Amon entered first, his face calm. Behind him walked Lio, a 12-year-old cancer survivor whose haunting song on YouTube had touched millions, including Kaveh.
🎙️ Jon Anik’s voice softened:
“Lio’s story is nothing short of remarkable. This young man has faced unimaginable challenges, and his song about finding hope in chaos has inspired millions, including Kaveh.”
As Lio looked at Kaveh, battered but still walking with purpose, he thought:
If he can face this, maybe I can, too.
Round 1: The Fight Begins ⚡
The bell rang. The fighters met in the center of the octagon. Stravka came out swinging, unleashing heavy punches. Kaveh remained composed, dodging and countering with fluidity.
Three minutes in, the lights flickered. The arena flipped. Gravity reversed, suspending the cage upside down.
🎙️ Rogan shouted:
“There it is! The flip happens right on schedule! And look at Stravka—he’s thriving in this environment!”
“This is Stravka’s world,” Cormier added. “He’s built for this chaos.”
Breaking News: Dana White’s Speech 📰
Midway through the second round, the broadcast abruptly cut to Dana White at a podium backstage. His face was grim but defiant.
“Yeah, this is bad—50 senators dead, Russian terrorists behind it. But let me tell you, these two warriors aren’t stopping for anything. This fight? It’s what the world needs right now. So sit back, and let them remind us why we don’t give up.”
The camera returned to the cage. Kaveh, bloodied and struggling, tried to adapt. Stravka thrived in the inversion. Ringside, Lio gripped his seat, his heart pounding.
Round 3: Lio’s Song Changes Everything 🎶
As the final round began, Stravka pummeled Kaveh with relentless strikes. Lio’s heart broke.
“If it worked then,” Lio whispered, “maybe it can work now.”
🎙️ Rogan leaned over:
“Lio, this is your moment. You’ve already inspired so many people. What are you going to do?”
Lio stood. If he can fight, so can I, he thought.
Climbing into the cage with ease, he grabbed the microphone and began to sing:
“When the world is upside down,
It’s the heart that finds the ground.
Strength is not the hands that fight,
It’s the love that makes it right.”
The crowd fell silent. Grown men wiped away tears. Parents pulled their children closer. Stravka froze mid-punch, his fists trembling. His rage melted away.
The lights flickered. The world flipped back to normal. Outside, reports came in: the attacks had stopped. Soldiers laid down their weapons. World leaders called for peace talks.
The Finish: Victory in the Octagon and Beyond 🏆
With the world right-side up, Kaveh found his opening. Dodging Stravka’s next strike, he countered with a spinning backfist, sending his opponent crashing to the mat. The referee waved it off.
🎙️ Jon Anik’s voice boomed:
“Amon Kaveh with an incredible comeback! And Lio… this boy didn’t just change the fight—he changed the world.”
Epilogue: A New Anthem of Hope 🌍
Lio’s song became a global anthem, played in homes, protests, and classrooms. Even world leaders were moved. The American president, watching live, chose peace over retaliation.
“If a child can remind us of love in chaos,” he said, “so can we.”
Stravka, humbled, reflected years later:
“Balance doesn’t mean no chaos—it means not letting it own you.”
From a small Ukrainian village to bustling Moscow, people swayed to Lio’s melody. The night of the inverted cage became a legend, proof that even in a world turned upside down, the heart could set it right again.
